Job Title: Physical Therapy Assistant
Location: Johnson County Hospital, Tecumseh, NE
Department: Physical Therapy
Reports To: Director of Rehabilitation
Work Schedule: Department operation hours are M-F, 7am to 5:30 pm. While our department is open during those hours, individual work shifts may vary. Specific shift times are available to choose from and agreed upon during the hiring process. Weekend hours are entirely dependent on patient needs and may necessitate Saturday and/or Sunday visits especially for inpatient/Swing Bed patients.
Position Summary: This position is responsible for providing assistance to the Physical Therapists by performing direct patient care and the written documentation included in this care.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Works with school-based pediatrics, inpatients, outpatients, skilled care patients, and Home Health patients.
• Maintains communication with the Physical Therapists in regard to departmental activities, personnel issues, and patient status by written documentation and/or verbal communication of appropriate information.
• Assess and documents the needs, problems, and progress of the patients for whom he/she has primary responsibility throughout the Patient's course of therapy each time the patient is seen.
• Provides patient care based on patient care plans outlined by the Physical Therapist. Performs prescribed procedures completely and safely according to established protocol. Documents on each patient each time that they provide care.
• Documents discharge planning as directed by the Physical Therapist, including home treatment programs, supplies information required for referral forms, and scheduled out- patient treatment. Acquires signature of Physical Therapist on necessary documents.
• Initiates and documents patient/family teaching consistent with established guidelines.
• Participates in the teaching of departmental and patient care techniques.
• Uses professional judgment, carries out physician orders accurately, completely and promptly.
o Clarifies when necessary and documents information.
• Informs Physical Therapist and/or physician of changes in patient's condition or proposed changes in treatment when indicated.
• Reviews pertinent literature/journals and attends seminars/conferences which will further the development of Physical Therapy practices.
• Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant shall not perform evaluation, alter or change treatment plans.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Must be currently licensed as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in the State of Nebraska.
• Previous experience in a Physical Therapy department is desired.
